Brendon Gale reflects on growing up on the NW Coast.

17 February 2025

Tasmania Football Club chief executive Brendon Gale reflects on his early years in north west Tasmania and the profound impact of his upbringing on his highly successful sporting and professional life.

After 37 years living in Victoria, where he played 244 games for Richmond and went on to become one of the AFL's most respected administrators, Gale has returned home to help guide the establishment of the Tasmania Devils.

Gale's passion for Tasmanian football runs deep. He describes the Penguin Football Club as his 'first love' and local players he watched as a child remain his heroes to this day.

He played with the Burnie Hawks in the old Statewide League and for Tasmania in the famous win over Victoria in 1990, matching the feats of his champion father, Don Gale, who represented the state during a golden era in the late 1950's and 60's.

The new Tasmania Football Club chief sat down for a chat with Alister Nicholson.
