Future Talent Consultant Joins the Devils
Tasmania Football Club (TFC) is pleased to announce the appointment of highly respected former AFL recruiter Scott Clayton as the Club’s Future Talent Consultant joining in a part-time capacity.
Clayton, a proud Tasmanian and one of the most experienced talent scouts in the game, will support the Club’s list and recruiting strategy by helping identify younger players emerging through the early talent pipeline.
A Hobart Football Club premiership player, Tasmanian representative, and Fitzroy Football Club great, Clayton has spent over three decades in the AFL system, building a strong reputation in recruiting. His senior roles at the Brisbane Bears, Western Bulldogs, Gold Coast Suns and North Melbourne have seen him play a pivotal role in assembling successful AFL lists and nurturing some of the game’s most exciting talent.
Clayton's experience at the Gold Coast Suns in particular, will be of great benefit to TFC. He brings an understanding of what works and what doesn’t when establishing a list from scratch, and he’ll bring critical insights as the Devils lay the foundations for long-term success.
TFC CEO Brendon Gale said Clayton’s appointment is another key step in the Club’s football strategy.
“Scott is not only one of the most experienced and respected recruiters in the country—he’s one of Tasmania’s own,” Gale said.
“He understands our football culture, he knows our communities, and he has a proven eye for identifying young talent. We’re delighted he’s coming home to help lay the foundations of our Club’s future.”
Clayton said he was proud to return to Tasmania to contribute to the state’s AFL journey.
"I have thought a lot about Tasmania's entry into the AFL and AFLW for many years. To see this finally becoming a reality and now to be able to be a part of it from the beginning is a dream come true for me."
Clayton added, "To be a part of the build of a football Club from the start is not an opportunity that comes around often, I am so excited about being able to work with the team to build a football list that will represent our Club and our state with talent, grit and pride."
Clayton will commence in May.
