SheDevils Launch: Building Our Future Together

11 June 2025

The Tasmania Devils launched something special today – and it's about much more than football.

SheDevils brings together the women shaping sport in Tasmania and beyond. It's not just another networking event – it's a platform built on the belief that when we lift each other up, we all rise.

"We're not retrofitting equality – we're embedding it," said Kath McCann, our General Manager of Marketing, Public Affairs and Social Impact. "From the design of our new high-performance facilities to how we hire and work, we're intentionally creating a Club where everyone belongs."

That's the Tasmania way. No shortcuts, no afterthoughts. Hand built from the ground up.

Our inaugural keynote speaker, Sue Clark from the Western Bulldogs, knows what it means to build something lasting. As Chief Operating Officer, she's led transformational change across multiple clubs, including the $80 million redevelopment of Whitten Oval – creating one of Australia's best venues for women's football.

"It's the proud home of our Club – in the same place it's always been," Clark said. "Now that we can fully integrate our women's and men's programs along with our administration while also facilitating a strong connection point for our community, it's having an enormously positive impact."

Sound familiar? That's exactly what we're striving to build here in Tasmania.

Clark also shared insights into guiding the Bulldogs into new revenue streams – philanthropic strategies, capital campaigns, and investment portfolios that future-proof the club. The kind of gritty, innovative thinking that challenges the status quo.

We're the first Club in AFL history to launch with both men's and women's teams from day one. That's not by accident – it's by design. We're building more than a football Club. We're building a new model for sport in Tasmania and we can take so much inspiration from people like Clark and how they work within their clubs.

SheDevils reflects our broader mission: creating a high-performance, inclusive culture where everyone belongs. It's grassroots community building at its finest – bringing together emerging leaders and industry trailblazers to share their stories and shape the future.

Because we know the collective is more powerful than the individual.

This is just the beginning. SheDevils will continue to elevate and support women working in sport across Tasmania and beyond. It's another way we're proving that being different – being us – challenges everything the AFL has seen before.
